You are hopelessly outmatched if you're trying to compete with the C++ compiler optimizer by writing ASM code.

The Assembly code's output is much smaller than the C/C++ output, and can be booted from for my small OS near prototype stage.

Well if you're running a small home-grown OS, fine Wink

Our million lines of C++ code at work compiles into 1.5 MB exes that run on boxes with 8GB of ram, so the EXE size doesn't matter much these days.

My PC has 384MB RAM and 1024-4096MB pagefile.
Update: 4096-8192MB pagefile.

Just a tip... Set the pagefile about 2.5x greater, with no growing allowed (min/max the same). The pagefile will run faster that way if its a set (static size) pagefile. I'd say 1024MB and any higher might be useless. Wink You're probably actually hurting your system speed if its trying to use 8gigs worth of a pagefile, I would think too much.

Though I'd suggest upgrading to 2GB now in days. You can get two 1 GIG sticks for 20 bucks each on ebay, or cheaper.

While Advent Rising and SF 2.0 can run on the current config, my PC remains physically unchanged.
And I need a bank account at 12 years lol.
