AFTER TESTING 2.0 OFF LINE AND THEN GETTING A CHANCE TO PLAY FOLKS ON HAVIKS PLAY LOCAL CONNECTION THIS IS WHAT IVE DISCOVERED.  off line on the pc vs bots much better than vs humans cause of the following reasons:


1.  ships turn slow as heck , the same ship in 1.4 turns much faster

2.  the chat is broken badly and lags worse than the us server.
you must use tab to chat and enter after that to key your message turns off the chat and your messages are sent min later.

3.  lag is still bad however sometimes in a duel the enemy ship will vanish totally and you blow up altho you cant see him the weapons or the reason you poped.
and shows up on the chat 3 min later.

4.  the dock does not work correctly you get brung in and then it quits.  or just wont dock at all.
altho this could be lag related.

5.  the explosions are still way to fast.

now get this... i know this game is in dev only and im not BITCHIN only trying to help the dev
with issues relating to duels with other humans.


over all its still unplayable with the lag issues in the way. 

however its vast better than you think.   I love it and i know issues will take time to fix.

thank you nite tromp and others who are working on this.   i will always be the biggest fan.

Minutes ago, I was playing against Mars on Havik's 2.0 server.
Bugs found:
1) the chat bug:
    [ASCII 96]) the chat is VERY SLOW and has a lag bigger than the game itself (in my opinion)
    a) the Tab key is used like in a much older SF version (I think that I've read about it somewhere)
    b) after pressing the Enter key to send a mesage, the panel also receives it (e.g. typing then pressing 'Enter' then the power module in the currently selected Damage panel (or another module) X_Module's modules list will appear)
2) the Damage/Refit bug: once you dock the starbase, the Refit button is selected but you can't select anything in the modules list until you click on the Damage button
3) Mars "had a difficulty": I though that he couldn't dock and it couldn't, even I couldn't dock with Mars, but I could dock my race's SB (the drengin one)
    But before this, Mars's ship (Corvette class) entered a loop in which it appears from nowhere then it disappears after ~200-400px in a direction and the same thing happens for minutes

Upgrade your ship engine. At the higher engines there = to 1.4. This is similar to I believe people thinking the ships are SLOWER. IT's because of the improved frame rate that your EYES actually see. If you do a test (count in your head) for rotation, you will realize that the rotation is the same. I do know with smaller engines and bigger ships, you will have a reduced turn rate. This is expected. Use engine:5. For 'ship speed', even though not stated, there actually faster to accelerate by a couple seconds in total. Again, its the eyes playing tricks on you because you are used to only capturing 16 FPS per second.

Yes, I made it so you can only use TAB. This prevents issues with the chat system and actually mis-clicking it. Now it is standard like most games that require you to hit a button before hand. I would guess the chat messages are sending a min later because perhaps the server might be out of sync. But we are working to get the lag/sync issues fixed, so no worries there.

Apparently people been stating this, but I believe its to do with some sync issues. It's not actually the lag. If you start up a new server, you'll see a huge difference, but apparently over time something is getting out of sync. We should be working on this shortly with another release that has debugging features so we can figure out WHERE it gets out of sync.

It's actually the image that doesn't have enough frames. I need someone to design some images for explosion and other things but I dont' have anyone yet Sad

This is that out of sync issue. I don't think the server can be run for long periods of time at the moment. I think theres a needle in a haystack but that slowly causes the game to get out of sync from test playing. I have no clue yet but Tromp has added some debugging for the next release, which I'll be releasing this week so we can figure it out.

I have not had issues with the mouse, can you explain? Maybe it's something to do with the safe mode you are running?

I just found out what might be the mouse bug, but it's more then that.

Alot of clicks seem to be sent to the server, when they don't need to be, for example mouse clicks or targetting.

For example, using the < and > keys to alternate target, if you hit < and then > fast enough (Someone laggy like me gets it), It seems to be sent/received to the server and sent back, and you see your target either change back to the target you didn't want, or it will FLICKER back and forth.

This goes for a few things too. This is my guess could be a potential lag problem as it could be doing it MORE then just what we see so far. I also see things like mouse clicks to change targets/etc cause it too.

thanks Nite sir as i said no critic on your work im in love with what you have done and are doing.. this is the right way.

i tried to use the reporting system on all that but it kept timing me out so i put it here hope you dident mind.

Its fine mate, don't need to apologize. I would suggest getting another browser if you are timing out I would think. Smiley

I just answer as best as I can. Give the ship speed a try (and rotation) when your maxxed out and time it. I've done tests on the smaller ships and the smaller ships are actually quicker.

But since male eyes can see (I believe) anywhere between 50-60FPS per second, it probably looks like the game is  slower then it was in 16FPS because the ships 'jumped' more rather then being smooth Wink
