Excellent, great work so far Havik!

I've copied over the general fleet policy and also made a post with the Fleet HQ staff list to get things started.

My stance:

Quote
While I support the general idea of having a central fleet HQ, I also strongly believe that there should be as few mandatory rules as possible. People are smart and the last thing many people would want would be for the SF admins to start dictating and micromanaging how they run their fleets. (I also don't think either Nite or Sand or I would want to get involved in managing the fleets!)

Well for people who don't understand, DS's post here: http://stellarfrontier.ss-network.net/index.php/topic,1229.0.html

Is mainly just giving info. There isn't set rules limiting on what you can say or do. Pretty much you need 5 members to create a fleet, and in basic terms; don't do anything retarded, like giving out hacks, or teaching players stupid crap like that. You can run your fleet how you want too, its your call, DS isn't locking you down to ANYTHING and it will be pretty much run like it is now.

===

Though I think we can remove a couple of those small rules like having them keep player to keep a playerlist, or state when war is stated/when a leader changes. That can all be handled by the new system. (Aka getting a fleet list by clicking the fleet name, with ranks. A nice war area where you can activate wars/truces, etc.)

And then you can view the fleet page for the information on everything like leader/wars/truce/members, and can also have a 'global' activity list where anything done to the clan is kept, so you don't need to check every fleet for any changes.

So pretty much a fleet manager system, in PHP (web based), that works with the game Smiley The idea here is to not have us watch there every move. One person whos clanless/not biased can do checking every now and then, dedicated to this reason, but otherwise, its probably NOT even needed to have someone do this if a proper system is setup.

I'm fine with having a fleet area for information and other things, but you can't just restrict people from having fleets.

And pretty much the whole fleet automation system was thought up not recently, since it really hasn't been my todo list or anything like that;

But I really want it to not be like a jail cell. No game does it, and it would kill the game. Just need to be careful with this all and make sure it's done correctly, both with what you guys are doing and the automated system to handle alot of it.

Things like wars/etc can be discussed if need be, and can be assigned for example by both parties agreeing on the war in the fleet system, etc. But other then things like that we aren't going to jail cell anyone. Keep it 5 members to create a fleet etc, and let whoever wants to, do so. Will have some small rules to prevent for example, someone with the same ip/etc from creating a fleet, simply put, someone from the fleets area can moderate things like that every now and then since sometimes its hard for a automated system to prevent stupid things like that, but otherwise lets try to keep it as easy as possible.

Thanks for the excellent comments Nite! In fact that's exactly what I wanted to say, but I wasn't able to put it quite so concisely. Wink

I just think no one needs to worry about fleets and that we will screw the fleet system/etc. It will pretty much be the same, for the most case the only major difference will be 5 to start a fleet to prevent fleet spam, that's really it. Though it's written a bunch, we'll adjust it when the time comes and nothing is set in stone yet. But I wouldn't worry about the whole fleet system and it being like a jail or anything like that, and for the most case people won't even realize its there, (Aka don't teach fleet members to exploit/hack/etc, basically don't do stupid things. ). But yeah, trust me on that one Wink

Declaring wars has always been around, becuase you normally want to let the other people know you are in a war. But I'll make it pretty cool/automated, even broadcast it on the main news for example when two leaders agree on a war, something fun like that.

Throwing insults/name calling and talking about each other is normally apart of war, long as its kept within borderlines, like not racial for example. I want to promote good wars, but theres only so much 'trash' that can be dealt with before you get sick to your stomache.

For fleet wars, the server may be able to automate it. Aka you pick what time on the schedule, both parties agree, the server sets it up for you, and the winner is determined on the one of the following you pick: A. Total game points earned (prestige), so colonizing/etc counts, winner is the team that did more.. Or B. Most kills against each other for an hour or up to a certain kill, the standard way.... Winners are then recorded automatically and there is no dispute on who won or lost. Should be possible when scripting is added anyways, and I'll make some fleet war functions for the main server. This is way in the future though but it should be a great idea and make fleet battling alot more fun when its all recorded Wink

Wars could be ended after a certain objective is met too, not sure about this yet. Like '20 wins over the enemy fleet' in total, so it could go for a few months before someone has 20 wins. The objective would most likely be determined by the player, though it can just be a endless war too, I suppose... But there is no fun in that!
