What if using Q drive drains it, and it can't be re-activated after dropping out until it's fully recharged?

So you enter Q, you can stay in it for as long as you like, but once you drop out, you can't do it again until the thing recharges?

That's what I had in mind too Wink

Alright, but if you do that, can you allow more freedom on how you navigate in Q?
That would include being allowed to sit stationary without needing to press the AFK button

But why exactly? Can't you cloak to sit stealthy/sneaky? :| I do want to make it so you can select empty space though..

AI have a knack for coming out of nowhere and killing me with 2 torps after I've been cloaked for a good 5 seconds

That would be a AI problem then Tongue They probably don't see cloaked as cloaked as much, I do know they have some sort of remember last position/last hit area though

I really ask that we not do anything that changes how we go in and out of q.  It really would take away a good portion of tactics in fighting.  So much that makes one successful in a fight is gaining proper position on your opponent.  Many people fight defensively and fire and retreat.  The ability to q quickly and often allows me to accurately get behind them to counter the defensive tactic.  I also use a quick q to get myself out of trouble when someone manages to "cross the T" on me with mines.  The ability to stop on a dime to avoid them is another huge tactic that I think most people use frequently.

Cloak/phase is already far less effective, all I ask is not to reduce the ability to go in and out of q to gain position.

How about this: you can qpark the old way, but it drains power, so you can't come out of Q rambo-style shotting everyone. Also, give it some 5 seconds to reset the engines before you can really move.

SO if you want to qpark and jumpt out it'd be a death sentence. You can Q park and naviagte to a safe location so you can jump out, reset the systems and continue fighting.

I don't really see the problem with Q parking and Q ambushes. They can be countered.

It would make gaining position on someone utterly useless.  It would force you to come out of q way out of firing range while you wait the time for the engines to reset.  By that time your target has time to adjust and regain their defensive stance.  Why does this need changing at all?  I personally can say that the q jumping is balanced as is.  After over a decade of the games existence, I have never heard anyone mention even one issue with the q drive system.  Why suddenly now does it need to be changed to a point where q jumping is no longer a viable strategic fighting option?  Hell, if you want to make pvp even more one dimensional in this game, lets go all the way with it.  Lets remove cloak, q drives, all weapons and ship types except one and fight each other with a blaster.

Well, I don't know where you've played, but bunny hopping is considered one of the most annoying strategies ever.

Lots of people complained about players who became invincible by hitting you from several places, making themselves an unacquireable target jumping all over the place. That's what we want to avoid.

It's not just taking strategic advantage off Q, its changing what IS a strategic advantage.

Those who "bunny hop" are very vulnerable.  You just have to be smart about it.  If this is truly the issue why you want things nerfed, then I would say the current q drive system should stay as is.  What you just described has more to do with learning how to properly combat such a tactic.  Changing the mechanics of the system so you no longer have to combat it is not a good reason so change something.  Especially changing a system for the worse.  The idea of, "if you can't beat it, change it" mentality just frustrates me because its a cop out and it weakens the fighting down to a slow paced tedious endeavor.

I remember Anaxis he was a master of Q warping tatics. he could apear anywhere and zoom anywhere.
the rambo style is a very effective tatic but its not used by everyone it takes skill to do what anaxis and blackdog/Barasonian
can do.

I recomend having it the same as it has always been.

there are disadvantages to Q warp fighting. such as if you get hit when your entering or leaving Q you have no shields whatsoever

I cant count how many times Ive died trying to Q in and out and getting stuck by AI shots or players visa versa.
its not a style for everyone but it has been a style that has been used by the greats

in fact i feel taking q warp fighting away would take a very good part of what makes SF stellarfrontier.

I remember the days when myself JP,Laplace and backdraft were the 4 horsemen.
it was common place then aswell.

on that note.
