I have a server running within a network that I would like to be able to reach outside. I have a port open for it and we tried using ip..but no luck.

Do I have to register with the nexus? And how do I? I been hosting servers for other games, but its simple stuff requires port and ip (plus password) to get into.

I don't know how/what to do for a server for SF.

Usually the problem with first-time server hosts is that they do not realize their router  (if they have one) is blocking the ports and makes the server to outsiders appear as "Not Responding @ <insert your EXTERNAL IP address HERE>", although we have had folks who purposely blocked the ports before...

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm
(Find your router model if you have one, once you hit the "select a game" part, StarCraft usually provides a good example, only replace the ports required to the 20000-20009 range)

So I have to use the default port when I start up? Which is like in the range you mention, I opened 25566 for it (I use 25565 for Terraria). Also not too sure how to connect do I do internet or local when trying?

The port number used by the server can be any bloody number you want, it's easily changeable if you hover the mouse over the number and punch in whatever number you want, but if you really want to force the server console to use the same number of your liking, you should open server.conf and see if you can edit the default port number.

I went with the default numbers you gave. Is that all I need to do? WHen I get home I click on:

Internet, type in ip and refresh? Or do I do ip:port ?

If you used the default ports you do not need to specify a port , just the IP.

Otherwise its IP:PORT, like 127.0.0.1:20001 for example.

I must be something wrong. The ports are forwarded. I get home Click on play on internet (says nexus unavailable right off bat), type in the ip, and nothing.

I just put nexus.stellarfrontier.net and I saw mine but I can't connect to it.

Had my coworker try from his comp, no dice either.

It pops up on the list but immediately (if you sit there and watch) says can't connect. Select ti and hit okay...player window pops up and tries to connect but fails.

Open the server.allow file and write on a separate line the player name or IP for each of the players that can enter play in your server.
To allow everyone, just type in ALL.

Firewalled, your ports are closed

try opening UDP and TCP 20000 - 20009

I will do the allow thing. Also the ports are open since I went into my router. Though I haven't tried client side.
