I am trying to redo my Ui. It's pretty damn simple all you do is open the files in paint resave as 24 bit instead of 256 colors and then redo the bmps in beautiful high color, once they're in your system they dont even effect your lag. HERE IS MY PROBLEM.... since i was last in someone has written in L-panel-2.bmp, which is better and bigger than the original. problem is no matter what i do the Ui will only show it in game at 256 color even the the source file is 24 bit. so my Ui looks pretty damn good apart from the left panel which looks REALLY bad. Does anyone know how to get SF to show this bmp in 24 bit instead of 256 just like it does with ui1280, vid, chat and map ?

Yeah won't beable to do this just yet. I have to figure out a few things and if it's possible without a great increase of FPS, for now have to wait. Photoshop is good for saving 256 bmps because it picks the best 256 colors needed, while windows paint has its default 256 colors I believe, which kill colors.

For a free editor, try GIMP. I think that does the trick too.

For GUI, I'd also like to see it, just to know how it looks like anywho or what your trying to do Wink

The chat/vid/map are 256 colors though.

you can put it in 24 bit. i already have.i have my ui in 24 bit including files sf-ui-1280.bmp, sf-chat.bmp, sf-vid.bmp and sf-map.bmp. When we were using l-panel-1 it could be changed to 24 bit and showed up nice. but since l-panel-2.bmp has arrived i can change it to 24 bit. but it only shows up as 256. it shows the image but it's reduced to 256 color and looks crap. whoever wrote it in has not copied the same parameters as l-panel-1 and i needed to know where they are written so i can change them.

Interesting to know. I'll have to take a look at this...

Anyways.. I fixed it on the next client release. I had it check to see if Lpanel-2 is a 24 bit as well now. Should be released soon. So just go along with what you got.

Instead of using Lpanel2 anyways, I just have it picking the proper panel instead of loading both panels as well, sort of like what I did with the change, so misc wont use LPANEL-2, will just add a -2 if it releases the screen width is more then 800.

Mind showing us what you got for a example? Would be interesting to see.

Ahh very cool.

And yeah I'll have that issue solved. just use a 24 bitmap for now and ignore the issues, will be solved.

I was thinking about swapping to 256 to 24 bitmaps for everything else, but then I released why while solving this bug. 24bitmap doesn't support proper transparency/masking, something to do with that. That's why the image looks like crap. Sad

So guess cannot use it for everything, but cool to know 24-bit works for some things. a 24-bit interface is pretty neat. Have to swap to PNG sometime, but it's going to be a month or more worth of work, and alot of things will need to be recoded, like cloak, etc.

Hmmm - That's very interesting. I had no idea you could do things like that with the UI.
