Saving as a 256 color bmp in mspaint gets some pretty piss-poor results, and I remember photoshop having some way of indexing all the colors in the image, so that it's compatible with SF, and still looks the same.

Anyone know how to do this? I can't seen to figure out how to save it as a 256, or export, or change modes, I think it's called "indexed color"? I can't seem to find it.

The second question involves sound... What are the limitations on Stellar frontier audio? I tried using a sound file with a 1411kbps rate and 516KB file size, and kept crashing the game. Is there an upper limit on sound quality? like 64kbps?

Download Paint Shop Pro 3 (yes, you heard me, version 3, because it is best for SF conversion. It's also an infinite trial w/o limitations), and any awesome ship you got can be converted in PSP 3 (as long as you COPY the whole image). It didn't do much damage to my bitmaps (barring Neptune, that was one of the worst hit). If you do that, I'll guide you

Audio...uhmm thats tricky because I dunno who's in charge of the sounds right now besides AdmiralTigerclaw.

Ideally, sounds will be upgraded to 44100 khz 16 bit stereo.

Any limitations at this time are a programming and engine situation.  IE: Not my department.  That means my operator will now transfer you over to Nitehawk.

To be honest I haven't checked the quality of wav sounds just yet. I know the system that uses it is DIRECTDRAW, however, the loading portion might limit it to something very low.

In general ATC's 44100 khz 16 bit stereo work fine. However, I don't think an oddball like 1411kps rate is nice to any game in general. Have you tried 256 or 128?
