YOu know i think ds has it out for us he keeps cussing out our fleet and players.  we arent allowed to even play anymore on any of the servers out there ive got the message your my worst enemy so many times now its not funny.   look after all we have done for  the game and if you dont want us  to play just have night tell us and well all quit.   What new person would ever want to be cussed out by a fourm dev?
it sucks that night wont do anything about it.. and he keeps on doing it.  once yeah twice.. well thats a pattern that prompts me to believe he either hates women or simply likes to act like he is a god and cuss who he chooses.

Vagan.

I cannot do anything about it really though. Technically there is no 'set' admins in the game or 'devs' really because the game is open source. Servers are more player independent and such. If it wasn't for DS, we wouldn't probably have the source code to begin with, and SF would be still dead, most likely.

Overall, I'll create a /ignore function sometime so you can ignore players. Just ignore things like that, play the game and not worry. I understand you are upset about it but theres little I can do about swearing. DS is a player like yourself, and again, no one really has 'dev' status in a server, unless they own the server, they cannot hurt or harm you there (Since we removed the special dev stuff that caused issues with skillet back then.) Overall I'm just a player too. I can be booted, kicked, etc. I just code for the game...

Though I could understand about locking down things if however there was one giant server, however the whole server based stuff is more player run, so you have the option to run your own server, ban/boot people, etc. And again I'll be creating a /ignore function, so there should be no more issues. Simply put, if they piss you off, you /ignore them, and voila, no more listening to them! Smiley

The forums are owned by DS, not by myself too. I only own stellarfrontier.net, but ss-network.net is DS's or one of his buddies. Tongue Rather, he created these forums. So there are forum devs but there are no 'game devs' really (since the game is player runned servers like I stated).

You shouldn't worry too much about it, your a good person, so there is no reason to get upset over it, just ignore and play! Wink

As Nite says, technically there are no 'set' admins. There are however players (such as Nite, Mobi, myself, and JN) who provide various SF-related services and hence have certain administrative functions associated with these services*. In performing our various administrative tasks, we understand and respect the tradition in SF of 'power' resting in the hands of the various players who choose to host online servers. As a result we attempt to limit ourselves as much as possible to functioning merely as caretakers and not as active rulers.

Hence, in light of all of the above, when in SF, any and all of us are merely SF players, nothing more and nothing less, and should be treated as such.

* This is distinct altogether from the issue of game developers. Nite and Mobi do coordinate overall development efforts for future releases of SF, but SF development itself is unrelated to any administrative functions in the game or the community itself.

Very well put, DarkSun.

Squaffles will happen guys... the trash talking is a part of the game, IMO.
It's how you know that there is a seperate player/personality on the other side of the server connection.
Not to mention it is a competitive game, people are going to get frustrated. Tensions run high...
The best thing to do is just ignore it - the /ignore function will be a great addition to the game, as said.
Until then just keep going about your business. Sticks and stones.
