You guys might want to find a different impact sound, maybe even more specific sounds depending on the size of the projectile.

The sound being used in 134 is driving me nuts, its like a wierd "gggrunch" sound

Maybe somthing a little more subtle?

Possibly, maybe ATC can whip something up to be honest then for different types.

Well, the sound I produced was a replacement for the generic low resolution 'poom' sound we had before, I went for something a little more meaty, though I can't remember exactly what I built it out of.

No status change, I'm busy with priority things, like trying to build that business plan I was talking about.

There are all kinds of open source sounds out there, it shouldn't be too hard to drag something up.

If you want, find me those open source sounds, and post links to the downloads.

As the sound manager, I need a good sound bank to build effects from.  But I'm busy multitasking other things I haven't found time to sit and search.

Bleh...

The quality on the open source you found is horribly sub-standard.

Be sure and check what kind of wave encoding you're getting.

We need nothing less than 44.100 khz, 16 bit stereo

What you posted for 'damage' was...
11.025 kHz, 8 Bit, Mono

Do you know what quality that is?
That's TELEPHONE quality.  Yeah.  Like someone recorded it with a cell phone.

To find out what it is... you open the basic Windows Sound Recorder, open the file, then go to File >>> Properties and look at the Audio Format field.

You can convert qualities... but it only really does anything going down in quality, because converting quality up does not reconstruct the original sound.

Yeah I know this.

However, since I there was just another topic removed about this since I pointed out this topic was here (and renamed the topic so they can find it.) We might have to just survive for now, I'm sure ventually it will be changed but alot of people unfortunatly don't really like the hard impact noise.

I do know it's pretty poor quality though, I'll keep looking before I do anything.. If anything I'll just swap back to the old explode noise for now.

I'm not too worried until SF2, when I want everyone up to date, graphics, sound, engine, no more laser line shooting, etc.

I found technically a site http://www.imphenzia.com/soundtrack/soundeffects.html

http://www.imphenzia.com/soundtrack/mp3_sfx/imphenzia_soundtrack_explosion23.mp3
http://www.imphenzia.com/soundtrack/mp3_sfx/imphenzia_soundtrack_explosion24.mp3
http://www.imphenzia.com/soundtrack/mp3_sfx/imphenzia_soundtrack_explosion25.mp3

Ones I checked so far and aren't insanely loud..  But still, meh. not sure.

These are low quality but I can get better versions of them.

http://stellarfrontier.net/upload/files/277689.mp3

http://stellarfrontier.net/upload/files/56627.mp3

http://stellarfrontier.net/upload/files/19852.mp3

http://stellarfrontier.net/upload/files/19580.mp3

I like 19580 and 56627 personally, they fit it more well. The 'old' explosion effect is this one to compare..

http://stellarfrontier.net/upload/files/expm.wav

Some says? The sounds in general can be 'softened' a bit too.
