Ok, so mars locked the topic where we all criticized his 'republic'.... I know I'm a mod, and give me a stern rebuke on this, I'll personally delete this topic, but this is simply EPIC.
Since its start, SF has had a military organization whether it's a fleet or a regulating force such as the dev group, and now this guy comes up with a bigbutt 'republic' fleet.
My two cents... or dime in this case: We need to stop Ragtag organizations like these, they only cause this community to look foolish just by the silliness of a founding memeber not taking responsiblity for what he posts, procrastinating until who-knows-when what shoudl be already happening for the bold words he uses, while he claims to have a powerful fleet of people who virtually ignore who he is and what he did in the past.
That's why I was talking to ATC some time ago about GFCA being the ruling force over fleet politics: this kind of circus cannot be formed so often when 2.0 is up.
PLEASE, drop your lines xD

Since fleets are not Officially sponsored entities of the game, they cannot actually be controlled by an established authority by the game management team.
About the only plug that can be pulled is removing the Official fleet sections from the Forums.
However, in doing so ALL fleets will have to be removed from the forums as 'I don't like how they are acting' is not sufficient argument to remove a particular fleet.
Then for all fleets we have to establish Tournament style guidelines.
These guidelines would be in place to sponsor fleets are registered participants of an actual tournament set or some kind of fair competition.
Then fleets would have to comply with these guidelines and register for official events. Failure to comply would result in not being registered for these events, or disqualification. And since these events would probably be things like 'Official Fleet Wars' and games of that nature, they would automatically hold more Prestige and winners would actually be able to claim bragging rights without contest.
However, there is no real configuration for organizing something of that nature at this point. And the Event Organizer would have to be a neutral party.

Um, establishing a vibrant community is important to growth of anything....
I would disagree with removing fleet sections or trying to manage them. What will be needed (especially once we get to 2.0) is a few volunteers like "event coordinators" that can help keep track on the community and provide "news updates" and develop community based fiction as it will be an important part of the new web site. These people will be able to post feeds directly to SF.net and help connect the community with what is going on. Kind of like reporters.

I never said to kill the forums myself, merely mention that if we kill one on a flawed argument, we have to kill them all. The community management and dev teams cannot be biased in oppinion of a person or fleets merely because we don't LIKE them.
That's why the rules are established.
Though that gives me an idea... We DO need community rules. Not merely forum rules, but a code of conduct that universally dictates to (participating) fleets the Acceptable Behavior.

Removing fleet forums wont solve anything, to think you would on the basis of ideology is absurd.
I do agree there need to be certain guidelines for tournament type events. The time of an event should be agreed upon by all participating fleets. This way everyone gets a fair chance to compete. If you don't show up you forfeit and the other team moves up the bracket. The event organizer should come on as a refiree, witnessing the event and makeing sure no one is breaking the rules.

There is no need for anyone or any "ruling force" to micromanage the fleets, the fleet forums, or fleet politics. The fleets, and the fleet forums, are fine as-is. People are free to love, hate, or ignore any fleet as they see fit, but all fleets have a basic and fundamental right to exist.
