Short mode version of what Death Note is.
Quite simply, it's a notebook that if you write the name of a person in it, that person dies. If it's just the name, typically of a heart attack. But deaths can have entire scenarios written into the notebook and they'll play out.
I won't get into the details of the why's... (That's what Wikipedia is for.) But quite simply, there's my response to all these sudden celebrity deaths.

Oh quit acting like a bunch of seven year olds fighting over the remote and get over yourselves already. Behavior arround here right up until the fleet boards went private was making me sick.

That sounds interesting.
What if you saw the death book, and you were one of the victims. Could you change you fate? Let's say a generic death.
Or what if the death book was played to a fact that you were MENT to see it (In a scenario that was wrote up).. How do you stop that fate from happening all together before your death? :>

You don't.
There are more details about the Death Note, but short version: the Demon who owns the book is the one that kills you.
So it's not so easy to trick it.
