today in the sf server i found a bot attempting to tractor the entire planet of uranus.

the bot was very single minded and really wanted the entire planet.
after doing this for some 10 min it then decided to capture a same color ship and go for a joy ride.
what is up with the bots now days?

You mean you don't tractor entire planets and try and haul them around?  Tractoring colonies is for sucka's!   Wink

I see my secret combat tactic has been leaked to the public!

Fools, the trick to winning is to tractor a large gas giant and throw it at a hapless colony world...

That's how I wiped the Drengins from the Sol system.  I hurled Uranus straight at mars like I was playing Planet Pool.

So THAT explains why the mining colonies on uranus' moons were sent over to Tau Ceti Alpha... You sahll die!

why do bots capture their own color and fly around with them, i can understand them capturing a enemy but i dont see the point in them doing the dragonfly thing?

two explanations...
1. they get tired of flying around
2. they have erratical behavior, in which the coding that orders them to capture enemies overrides the capture weak ships... or something like that....

hmm sounds liek the factory module and tractor system makes some bots want to doc with each other... hospital ship style... as for the planet part chances r its when the bot was trying to capture and enemy but do to lag... when the enemy was shot over top of the planet the bots target square warped over the planet... ive seen it happen a lot on the older versions...

btw who ever it was that resurrected this game from Stardock i thank u and the new Score and visuals r amazing... maybe the missile trails r a bit much but i think that if ships had the trails it would be neat... when players spam those missiles my system locks up... Kiss

Yeah the trails get laggy, but its fine in the DX version (New SF 2.0 version I'm working on.) And FPS is very high there. You can disable them in the options menu though for now if you want, I did it there just because.

Happens with loss of packets/not syncing. But yeah, a ship with at least 2 tractors and a factory is considered a starbase, so they'd try to dock with it depending on what it is. Normally though SB's only have factorys and >2 tractors.

The whole networks  getting done so I'm not too worried yet about lag bugs though until we have a working system:)

Still has alot of work to go.

ok heres two i seen today one i just was amazed.

first i seen a dregin bot fire a missle ok,  then he targeted it and shot it down with his lazer.  weird.
second i seen a dregin bot attempt to tractor the arc starbase.  when that attempt failed he barley excaped death and then went over to the human dock and tried to tractor it.. the human base killed him fast.
i know a tractor can be used to tear a ship apart as a weapon but come on a scout vs sb?  and who told bots they could target their own rockets?

is that AI or pure stupid.

Out of sync again. The firing a missile and such is most likely due to a sync issue with thinking it is still apart of another team, if you synced up after he fired the missile, you would most likely see the missile again.

My only guess is out of sync for the second one, since none of that occurs in a single player. Most likely because you spike alot and it messes up your online data since when you play its half server data and half client data, and the client tries to do without the server for the most case (Thus causing alot of out of sync issues and funny things to happen.)

the network code is awful.
Any competent game designer would make the data update and sync in real time.

ie. I switch off my modem and a bunch of people send text messeges, as soon as I power my modem back on, The server still sends the data I missed.

But with SF, it starts off moving shit around where the client thinks it is.

Ugh.. so... bad
