Probably about yeah. I will probably have it autorestart the server every 4am for now or something, but I think the connection (the actual server) gets wierd sometimes too.

If you've been reading logs (By the way, Hi! Still completely busy with RL, but I'll try to resume actually contributing a bit around here...), I was in the server last night and I saw something really weird while I was playing with Katylin. In short, I was Arcean, she was Drengin, and some time (say, ~10 minutes) into our duel, I suddenly saw this Arcean player - a Cadet - log in with these strange characters in the name - non-English characters. (It was like !@#$%!#!@#!#!$ except the characters weren't standard keyboard characters.) At the same time, I suddenly saw Katylin's ship somehow become Arcean, and then I realized that on my screen, Katylin's name and rank had been replaced with "Cadet !@#$%!#!@#!#!$". After a few minutes, this problem went away. Katylin says she didn't see any such "Cadet !@#$%!#!@#!#!$" log in...

It's probably some lag issue, but I just wanted to report it to be sure.

Weird I will have to check that out in the logs, thanks for reporting it... I wonder if its due to the program Plague made where it gets all the users playing. I am guessing it connects through acting as a player to get names. I would think this is fine but overall the server slots are weird and may have issues handling it sometimes because the network coding is so gunked. If you see it, hit F7 to make sure to know if its a lag issue or not.

If it was last night, the slots did end up fubaring. I am still not sure wahts the cause, but I have not looked into it yet until next version is done (Working on 1.3.7) I suppose it may be a nasty bug to fix and Tromp will most likely have to work his debug magic for that bug Tongue

I had the same exact thing.  The Cadet that logged in had an insane number of kills and negative deaths.  It followed me around and when I fired on it, the shots just passed right through.  I was convinced someone messed with their own stats.  However, I decided to resync.  After the F9, the cadet became another player that was logged into the server.  The other player did not say anything about a cadet logged in with us.

I actually thought while this was going on, that the possibility was it was you, Nite just messing around with me.  I thought that because in the past someone used a ship to observe people that was similar.  I believe it was either SFserver or My_Name.

Really? That is interesting, but if you synced up and it was fine again then it is lag for sure I think :|

The Lag works in mysterious ways...

Blowing up when not attacked, having your ship name replaced by memory allocations (1.1b), having your setup all changed up....
The Lag can do some strange shit...

Game relays on TCP, its hard for clients to keep up with TCP, probably creates huge issues etc.  Needs to be changed Sad

But then how does it work with continuum? It has like 3 different lag measurements and everything is so realtime-ish.

Pretty sure cont uses a combo of TCP and UDP, but mostly relys on UDP.

UDP sends constant packets, and doesnt care if it misses a few. TCP requires every packet to be received, but can generate alot of lag, and sometimes shit can be missed. As well as I am thinking it causes sync issues.

All online games now in days use UDP, TCP is more for text based games.. or browsers, where you have to receive every packet.
