i was downloading mods from the SF mod library, including bones sol, real sol, and star wars.
i put the files in their correct places, ran the game, started the galaxy, and on the player log in screen, before loading, i get a crash every time.
i have SF 1.3.6 or so if that makes a difference.

THose wont work. They are not supported by the SF 1.3.6. That site (The stardock website) Is also old. Those mods are for 1.2. No one has updated it. Sandtrooper does have a startrek mod you can download but I am not sure if its up to date, but I think it is. You would need someone to update those mods from 1.2 to 1.3.6. Alot of things have changed. P.S. If you downloaded files from 1.2 chances are they may have edited/overwrote your current 1.3.6 files and you may have to reinstall

Can we please remove those mods until they are either made to be up to date or categorized by the version they were made to work under?
I'd hate to lose new players because of crap not working

The Stardock site is not associated with me, unfortunately. I do not have access to the site. Perhaps Albert can do it but I am not too sure. To be honest I would just remove the site completely and direct link it to another site because its pretty old/outdated, Mobious is working on a new/better website that will come out with SF 2.0. At the moment though my main goal is getting SF 2.0 released though, then I will defiantly worry more about issues like this! For now I honestly cannot say I want players to see the game as is, because the network coding is very bad for todays games. Rather, if they play it for a bit, I am sure it will drive away players due to the horrible online fights. Thus I would rather wait until getting population to begin with unfort. Everything will be changed in the future 2.0 release. For now I am working on both the 1.3.x version and a 2.0 version. 2.0 Will also use directx and better things to prevent lag, since hardware rendering is quite bad now days too. I `think` Albert can change them, I am not sure, but I do not have access

Nope, I'm actually just about done.
Just doing some testing and re balancing.
The end result is going to be a series of missions. When the players succeed in completing it, I'll manually start the next stage.
In these co-op mission maps, all races but the one meant to be played will be AI only.
Up until I get these figured out, I'll just leave up a normal DM style server. 1 planet for each race, non-damaging sun.
In the next version of SF, I'll disable outfitting your ship, however, you'll be able to cycle through ships to find the one you need for the task at hand.
When fighting other players, try to use a ship of the same class as them; Fighters (Weak armor, extremely agile, small target, rapid fire weaponry) Corvettes (Medium armor, high velocity weapons with a low rate of fire) Frigates (Multi-purpose, strong armor, decent speed and agility for their size) Destroyers (Standard destroyer is good against capital ships, Missile destroyer is good against fighters) Cruisers (Massive damage output and heavy armor, good against everything but a mass of fighters)
Otherwise the battle will be very unfair. Fighter duels can last quite a while despite them having very little hull, but they can also end in 2 seconds if you aren't careful

Well, now you can just join the Kadeshi because they have a Multi-beam frigate that does the same thing =P

So I currently don't have access. I'll yell at a few people though and as soon as I get access again I'll nuke the site in favor of a redirect to SF.net.

Haha ok Mobious has a nice site hes been working on. Has some nice ideas anyways. Should support tons of things including mod uploads and junk
